Needle sizes decrease as the size number increases, for example a size 8 needle will be thicker and longer than a size 12 needle.
Also the sizes aren’t the same across types of needles, a size 5 sharps needle is shorter and thinner than a size 5 darning needle.
The needle eyes also vary from type to type, darning needles have very large eyes for example. We also have Easy Thread needles which have a slot for your thread instead on an eye.
